Glass Tabletop Overview
Protecting your beautiful table with a piece of clear glass is the best way to preserve its beauty. Standard tables, dressers, nightstands, and desks typically require a 1/4" thickness of annealed clear glass. However, for pedestal tables, and tables that dont fully support the glass, tempered is required. Some tabletops are thicker than others for added stability and aesthetics. For pieces with unique curves and shapes, a custom paper template is created to ensure the glass fits perfectly to the table's contour upon completion. Additionally, we provide replacement glass for patio tables that may have been damaged during storms. This service includes creating an exact template for the replacement glass, ensuring your table is restored to its original “like” condition. Glass tops offer not only protection and safety but also enhance the furniture's beauty, ensuring it remains a centerpiece for years to come.

Tempered Glass Tabletops
When glass is used as a standalone table top, tempered glass is required for its safety and durability. Tempered glass is approximately four times stronger than standard annealed glass due to a process of controlled heating and rapid cooling. This treatment also alters the breakage pattern of the glass. Rather than shattering into dangerously sharp pieces and shards of varying sizes, it breaks down into small, pebble-like fragments that pose less risk and are simpler to clean up. This is typically for scenarios where the glass tabletop does not sit on a completely flat surface, and the tempered glass either forms the table itself or fills in sections of it.
Annealed (Standard) Glass Tabletops
Replacement glass for patio tables
Adding a sheet of clear glass is one of the best ways to ensure the longevity of a favorite dining table. This same technique can be used to protect coffee tables, end tables, desktops, and so on. It’s easier to feel comfortable using an antique or heirloom table when the top is guarded by a layer of clear glass. For this application, 1/4” glass is typically used, but thickness options range from 3/16” to 3/4”. Since these tops are placed on existing surfaces, annealed glass is appropriate. A sheet of glass can be fabricated to fit perfectly on the existing surface. It keeps the wood grain fully visible but protects the table from spills, scratches, dents, stains, etc. With a protective glass top, you don’t need to worry I, And it’s fully supported all the way underneath we strongly suggest that you use standard float glass. Float glass has a harder surface area and doesn’t scratch as easily as tempered glass. The other benefit is if it does break it simply cracks in position and stays on the table.this option is less expensive but also less durable and safe compared to tempered glass.
Different Glass Thickness's
The optimal thickness for a glass tabletop depends on its size and intended use. For small tables, a thickness of 1/8 or 1/4 inch is usually adequate. Medium-sized tables are best served with a 3/8 inch thickness, while large or frequently used tables should have a thickness between 1/2 and 3/4 inch to ensure greater durability and safety. The selection of thickness should take into account whether it will serve as a laid over protective cover or a standalone surface with a table base. Glass that is 1/2 inch thick typically is not tempered due to its inherent strength. While thicker glass provides increased strength and stability, it also incurs higher costs and greater weight. As professionals, we will assess the situation and determine the best course of action for your table, providing a clear explanation for our decision.
